Did you know you could eat ice cream to help with hot flashes and also balance hormones? Keep reading to find out how...
In my health coaching practice I teach women in perimenopause and menopause, how to use food, herbs and lifestyle changes to lose weight, balance hormones and prevent chronic disease. Food and herbs are powerful natural medicines and should always be a first attempt at balancing hormones before using prescription medications.
I've taken two powerful herbs, maca root and cinnamon, and created this delicious and healthy plant-based ice cream to help you balance hormones and reduce hot flashes.
Maca root is my top superfood for helping with hot flashes. Research has shown that maca reduces perimenopausal symptoms including hot flashes, anxiety, and depression. Maca also works to balance hormones and helps with mood fluctuations. Maca is an adrenal adaptogen that helps bring you back to balance whether you’re in overdrive or underdrive. You can purchase organic maca powder in any natural food store or you can order it through Amazon.
Cinnamon can improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin. Insulin is one of the key hormones that regulate metabolism and energy use. It’s also essential for transporting blood sugar from your bloodstream to your cells.
The problem is that many people are resistant to the effects of insulin, also known as insulin resistance which can lead to serious conditions such as type 2 diabetes. The good news is that cinnamon can dramatically reduce insulin resistance which helps this important hormone do its job.
Today I am sharing one of my favorite plant-based ice cream recipes. Below you will find the recipe for my Hot Flash Sundae (Hormone Balancing Ice Cream).
HOT FLASH SUNDAE (HORMONE BALANCING ICE CREAM)
1 cup mixed nuts (roasted & salted)
½ cup maple syrup
1 15oz can coconut milk (full fat)
1 teaspoon chia seeds*
1 tablespoon maca powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon*
1 teaspoon hemp seeds*
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup pecans (chopped)
Place all ingredients (except chopped pecans) in a high speed blender.
Blend on high until combined and creamy.
Pour into a container and place in the freezer for a few hours.
Sprinkle chopped pecans on top.
Notes:
If you have an ice cream maker you can pour the mixture into that and process instead of placing in the freezer.
*Hemp seeds, chia seeds and cinnamon are all superfoods that help to balance hormones and reduce/eliminate hot flashes!
